You saved my life, Kyle. Deep down inside you're a monster. (pinches his cheek) But you're my little monster!
—Cartman to Kyle, 14x09 'It's a Jersey Thing'

Kyman is the slash ship between Eric Cartman and Kyle Broflovski from the South Park fandom.

Canon[]

Kyle and Cartman have a very odd friendship. The majority of the time, they are very hostile to each other; Cartman makes fun of Kyle for being Jewish, and Kyle makes fun of Cartman for being fat. Their friendship is more stable in the earlier seasons and becomes more turbulent as the show goes on. There are several occasions where they deny being friends, even though they habitually hang out with each other. On a few occasions, they have even attempted to kill each other.

Cartman's relationship with Kyle sometimes turns obsessive.

Despite how Cartman treats him, Kyle is still seen being sympathetic to Cartman in certain situations. In 'Manbearpig', Kyle is worried about Cartman because he thinks he is sick, and risks his life trying to help Cartman swim to safety. In this episode, Cartman also monologues to himself while inches away from Kyle's face. When Kyle wakes up, Cartman awkwardly brushes off the situation. Kyle hugs Cartman while he cries in 'Kenny Dies.' In 'It's A Jersey Thing', Kyle fights Snooki because she is assaulting Cartman. After this incident, Cartman pinches Kyle's cheek and says "Deep down inside you're a monster, but you're my little monster."

There are several points in the series where they are mistaken for a homosexual couple. In 'Tonsil Trouble', a man at the airport assumes they are dating and makes a sexual gesture with his hands. At the end of that episode during the speech a man is delivering, Kyle denies that they are friends, and so the man corrects himself and refers to them as 'lovers.' Kyle is appalled by this, but Cartman seems unperturbed. There are a few other interactions of note in this episode, such as Cartman trying to hold Kyle's hand and admitting he sneaks into Kyle's room a lot.

They are mistaken for a couple again in 'Cartman Finds Love', though this is because Cartman tells Nichole that he is dating Kyle so that she will stop pursuing Kyle. The rumor spreads and many students assume they are dating. When Kyle takes Nichole on a date, Cartman gets on the Megatron and continues the charade, proclaiming his love for Kyle and singing a song. A heart with their faces appears on the Megatron.

Fanon[]

Kyman is the most popular pairing for Cartman and the second most popular pairing for Kyle, behind Style. It is generally a very polarizing ship, with fans either hating or loving it. Haters of the ship put emphasis on Cartman's anti-semitic treatment of Kyle. A lot of the appeal for fans comes from Kyle and Cartman's bickering, bizarre dynamic, and their few genuine moments. An episode that is often used to criticize shipp is "Ginger Cow", where Eric has Kyle in his hands and makes terrible psychological and physical tortures with him.

A popular theory of their relationship is that Cartman treats Kyle in such a hostile way because he has a crush on Kyle that he does not know how to deal with or process. Another popular theory is that Cartman's feelings aren't necessarily romantic, but instead an obsession, possibly sexual. Some Kyman fans only ship them together in scenarios where Cartman is redeemed.
