Rachel and Finn date for a short time in season 1. However, Finn is unused to Rachel's excessive control in their relationship, and they break up soon after. Soon after this, Finn regrets his harsh words toward her and wants to get back together, but Rachel was hurt by his words and had already started dating Jesse. They get back together at the end of the season.
Rachel and Finn break up again. They begin dating once again at the end of season 2 when they kiss onstage at Nationals after performing "Pretending".
In season 3, Rachel loses her virginity to Finn, and the two later get engaged. On the day of their wedding, however, Quinn gets in a car accident, so they postpone the date. Both Rachel and Finn are secretly relieved by this. Despite this, the two go forward with their marriage plans, but Finn realizes that he is holding Rachel back from achieving her dreams, so he breaks off their engagement.
