Jafael is the het ship between Jane and Rafael from the Jane the Virgin fandom.
Canon[]
Jane and Rafael meet in 2009 when Jane works a summer job at the Golden Harbor Yacht Club, where Rafael plays tennis. He charms his way into the restaurant after hours one day and they have an incredible talk about life and their dreams. Rafael kisses Jane, who is elated, as she's had a crush on him all summer, but he never calls.
Five years later they re-meet when Rafael takes over The Marbella hotel where Jane works as a waitress. Thrown together by fate, Jane becomes pregnant, due to a medical mistake, with Rafael's child, and as they spend time together, Jane remembers how Rafael inspired her to dream – as he still does. During Jane's pregnancy they fall in love, and get to know each other as Jane's ex and Sin Rostro work to tear them apart. The devastation Rafael faces while they are together; his father being murdered by his stepmother, who turns out to be Sin Rostro, while his sister is on/off the wagon, throws him into deep emotional turmoil and he is unable to be in a relationship. This culminates in him seeing his mother, who abandoned him as a child, for the first time in 25 years and hearing that she took a payout to stay away from him. He breaks up with Jane, and though they try to work through it, Rafael thinks it's best for Jane if she doesn't hold on to him and he lies and tells her he doesn't love her. She's heartbroken at first, but then moves on, while he doesn't. After advice from his sister, Rafael tries to win Jane back. Jane gives birth to their son, Mateo, and Rafael tells her he wants to be with her. Mateo is then kidnapped by Sin Rostro, but they quickly get him back with help from Michael.
Everything changes for both Jane and Rafael as they are now parents. They try to make things work, but Petra inseminating herself, and Michael, get in the way. Jane chooses Michael and Rafael is devastated. Petra gives birth to her and Rafael's twin daughters, Elsa "Ellie" and Anna. Jane marries Michael and is able to move on after seeing her marry someone else. He considers telling her how he feels before the wedding, but decides not to as he sees how happy Jane is. Getting over his feelings, their relationship as co-parents and friends changes as wants to have his voice heard in Mateo's parenting and they learn to work with each other and compromise.
Eventually they move in together and Rafael decides that he wants to propose, but it's put on hold when Michael comes back from the dead and Jane is unsure how she feels. After Jane realises that she doesn't love Michael the same, she chooses the man she truly loves and is more than ready to spend the rest of her life with.... Rafael. However, he needs time to forgive and trust her again, which he does after he realizes that no one is going to be more perfect to be his soul mate, which she is, and they reunite. Two days after getting back together and re-consummating their relationship, Rafael proposes to Jane. She happily accepts. Not in a rush to get married they decided to wait a few months so that they can plan a ceremony that all their friends and family and be there. Jane finally finishes her book and gets a advance of 500,000 dollars. Three weeks and half late after all the obstacles they went through Jane and Rafael finally get married in front of all their friends and family with Jane's abuela officiating the ceremony.

Jane and Rafael's son, who was conceived through accidental insemination. They love their son more than anything. Jane and Rafael have very different backgrounds and sometimes clash on their ideas of upbringing, especially as Jane is very set in her ways and unwilling to compromise, but as she gets older and more mature, she becomes able to compromise. After finding out that Mateo has ADHD, they support and love him unconditionally, happy to know more about who he is so they can give him exactly what he needs in life. Mateo is the light of their life.

Fanon[]
Jafael is arguably the most popular het ship on the series, among the two most popular along with its rival ship, Cordueva. The ship has been through hell during the series, but has returned in the series' final season and the Jafael fandom have stayed with it throughout. The toxic part of the Cordueva stans are currently vile about Jafael getting together, going so far as to accusing Rafael and the relationship of being toxic, despite that not being true.
