“Hange... you have fulfilled your duty.”
— Erwin to Hange, Chapter 132.

EruHan is the non-binary ship between Erwin Smith and Hange Zoë from the Attack on Titan fandom.

Canon[]

Erwin and Hange both have prominent roles in the Survey Corps; they have a mature relationship of mutual trust and respect. They've known each other for a long time, before the fall of Wall Maria. Erwin lets Hange in on the top-secret missions, like the operation to capture the Female Titan.

In chapter 57, when Hange learns about titan shifters transmitting their power to other people through consumption, they rush to Erwin to tell him all about it. Hange arrives breathless and panting and tries to tells Erwin everything at once. Erwin calms them down and pours them a glass of water. Later he gives them bread to it as they are shown chewing on it, while he sits at the table reading Eren's report. Erwin and Hange work through Eren's recollection of the conversation between Ymir and Bertolt, and Hange theorizes on the nature of titans. Hange helps Erwin realize that titans who eat titan shifters become titan shifters themselves. As Erwin and Hange brainstorm and come to certain important conslusions, a soldier arriver and announces that Erwin is being accused of murder. Erwin immediately rushes Hange to leave as he doesn't want to put their safety to risk, and tells them that they are free to make their own decisions.

Hange trusts Erwin enough to believe him and his idea about current king being a puppet monarch and to start coup d'état. Erwin and Hange, alongside with Levi, lead a secret operation meant to overthrow the running government, expose decieving lords and officials, and put a new monarch on the throne. Before being arrested by the Military Police on accusations of organizing murder, Erwin names Hange acting commander of the Survey Corps in his absence. Hange helps Erwin dismantle Military Police conspiracy, and ensures that false charges against the Survey Corps and Erwin Smith are dropped. During the whole arc, Erwin and hange maintain close correspondence and always let each other in on the current events.

When the Survey Corps return to Shiganshina and Erwin is fatally wounded, Hange takes Levi's side on the debate about who they should give serum to, fighting for his survival until the end as they believe it will be right to keep Erwin's life. When Hange confirms Erwin's death to Levi, they look visibly downcast, as they sit with his dead body on the rooftop. Starting from the moment of Erwin's death, Hange takes charge of all the responsibilities previously handled by Erwin. When Armin wakes up after the injection of Titan Serum and says he considers Erwin to have been a better candidate for it, Hange agrees. They admit that they believe it's Erwin who should have survived.

After the timeskip it becomes apparent that Hange often thinks of Erwin. One time, as they lead the operation in Marley, they notice how Armin looks and acts like Erwin, as if his ghost possessed the younger man. One time, while discussing the continent's distrust of the Eldians with the remaining 104 cadets division, Hange almost directly quotes Erwin, saying that if one doesn't know or understand something, they should go and figure ir out, adding Erwin's famous "Isn't that the Survey Corps way?" Several times after Smith's death, Hange wonders why he gave them the position of commander as they doubt their abilities. Considering Erwin's calculating and sharp mind, it is obvious that he wouldn't agree with Hange on that, as he certainly believed them to be competent for it, otherwise he wouldn't have considered it.

After Eren Jaeger activates the Rumbling, Hange discusses their position in the world with Jean and Mikasa, and remembers Erwin once again. They insist on stopping Eren no matter what, otherwise the whole world will be exterminated. Hange says that they're the 14th commander and they devoted their heart to the humankind, mentioning how the majority of their comrades dies without even knowing it existed beyond the Walls. Erwin appears to be standing right behind Hange, closer than any of the other comrades, silently supporting them in in their decision to save the people of the entire world.

When Hange dies, succumbing to their injuries, they wake up and see all their fallen comrades. Erwin stands out as the most prominent figure. He reassures them that their sacrifice had paid off. Overjoyed to be reunited with all of the fallen soldiers, Hange recounts the hardships experienced as Commander, while many friends listen in.

EruHan is rather well received throughout the fandom, although EruRi and LeviHan are more popular ships. While some fans prefer to see their relationship as romatic, others like to imagine them as platonic friends.

Another reason why people ship EruHan is because of the closeness that Erwin and Hange have with each other. How Erwin trusted Hange to take his role as commander, and how Hange deeply missed Erwin.[1] The ship is also popular for the cute moments it has received in the Spoof On Titan manga.
