Aang is a character in the Avatar: The Last Airbender series. He is the avatar and is from the Southern Air Temple. He is also the husband of Katara and father of Bumi, Kya and Tenzin.

Aang first met Katara after she freed him from an iceberg. The two quickly became friends and Katara joined him in his journey around the world to master the elements and defeat the Fire Lord. Aang quickly fell for Katara but he had trouble with telling her about his feelings. However, Aang finally kissed Katara during an invasion of the Fire Nation. Katara was confused and told Aang about this when he confronted her about her feelings. Katara felt that war was not the time for romance and Aang forced a kiss on her which upset her. However, after the end of the war, Katara kissed Aang and the two became a couple. They eventually got married and had three children.


Aang is a popular character among the Avatar fandom, being the main character and all. When the sequel series came out, a lot fans were upset about the fact that Aang was dead and often compared the new avatar Korra to him, claiming that Aang was still a better avatar. A lot of fans were especially upset when Korra lost her connection to her past lives, including Aang. Many fans criticized Aang over the fact that he did not kill the Fire Lord and the fact that he forced a kiss on Katara. He received even more criticism when it was revealed that he spent more time with Tenzin than his other two children. Some fans are irritated with Aang for interfering with Zutara while others simply ship him with other characters such as Toph in order to solve the issue.



Bumi (LoK)
Bumi is the oldest son of Aang and Katara and was born as a non-bender. However, he became an airbender after Harmonic Convergence and joined the new Air Nation. Bumi was a commander of the United Forces until he retired and moved in with Tenzin. He is named after Aang's friend Bumi who was the king of Omashu. Bumi was known for being a wild man and likes to tell ridiculous stories of his past.


Kya (LoK)
Kya is the second of Aang and Katara's children and their only daughter. She is a waterbender and a healer like her mother. Kya has always been a hippie and traveled around the world in order to find herself. However, after Aang passed away, she moved in with Katara to support her. Kya is named after Katara's deceased mother Kya who was killed by the Fire Nation. "Secret Tunnel" is her favorite song.


Tenzin is the youngest son of Aang in Katara. He is a master airbender and was the Air Nomad representative of the United Republic Council until it was dissolved. Tenzin is also Korra's airbending teacher and served as a spiritual guide for her until it was revealed that he could not enter the Spirit World. He is the only one among Aang and Katara's children who got married and had children.
